Lucy: English-speaking Nanny at Mômji

Could you please present your professional background?

I have been wanting to become an actress for many years now. I left Botswana to make my dreams come true and came to Paris to study acting at the Cours Florent, where they offer English courses for foreigners.

How did you find a job in this company?

I had to find a job as soon as I arrived in Paris, and since I did not speak French, it was difficult for me.

One of my friends told me about a babysitting agency that provided home care in foreign languages. It was exactly the type of job I was looking for so I found one of their offers on MisterBilingue’s website and applied for it.

I did an interview with someone from the Mômji team and they hired me a few days later.

How is your experience as an English-speaking babysitter going so far?

Unlike what I imagined, it was not that difficult to find a family. I was turned down a few times because of the geographical distance and COVID, but I quickly found one. I have been working with them ever since.

I love taking care of children and babies, and this is probably the reason why I am so happy with the family I take care of. I have many brothers and sisters in Botswana so I am used to taking care of the little ones.

I have also heard about Mômji offering free French classes to their foreign nannies, so I have really improved since I went to these classes.

What do you enjoy the most about your position?

The family I work with has three little girls, and it is great to see them grow up over time. When I first started, I was changing their diapers and now, they can walk.

None of them knew how to speak nor understand English, and I myself only speak English during my childcares. I see them improving and I am happy about that.

I am very impressed with one of them and the way she is taking on English. She loves to speak it and as long as it makes sense to her, she is fine with it.

I found a great way to make them understand English faster by taking a book they love and finding its English version. I usually read the story before they go to sleep and I think these are very important moments of sharing.
