Antje: Support Assistant at Arc Europe

Can you present your professional background?

I first went to a language school, then I stopped my studies to become a dance teacher in a German company called "Les passageurs".

Around the age of 30, I decided to go back to school and I went to a graphic design school. After that, I became freelance and was able to work for a small company specialising in catalog design.

I then did another course in sports education, with an option in fitness and health activities. So, I worked as a sports educator with a vulnerable public for various companies and associations in Germany and France.

As I was a long way from work, I decided to stop and look for a job closer to home. That's when I came across Arc Europe's job offer.

How long have you been in France?

I arrived in France about 10 years ago.

How would you rate your previous experiences? What have they taught you (in terms of skills, etc.)?

Above all, my experiences have challenged me in the sense that I had no experience in the fields in which I was able to work.

They also enabled me to acquire IT skills. For example, before coming to Arc Europe I had never used Windows because in Germany we use another tool.

Did you have any problems while looking for a job? If so, which one(s)?

I encountered a few difficulties and I think it was linked to the language barrier.

Why did you come to France in the first place?

I came to France for personal reasons, but also because I found a job.

What do you miss the most about your home country (parties, food...)?

What I miss most is expressing myself in my native language, because it's easier for me. I also miss having coffee and a cake. I have the impression that the French are more inclined to have an aperitif.

Which aspect of the French culture do you dislike? Which one do you adore?

One thing I don't really like in France is the use of the formal form of address, because I think it creates a distance.

On the other hand, I love the lunch breaks, which are quite long and give us time to go to the restaurant. I also enjoy a game of pétanque with a little aperitif.

Do you meet up with any expats in your home country? If so: How did you meet them?

Not really, apart from my colleagues at Arc Europe who are also German.

Can you describe Arc Europe in one sentence?

Arc Europe is a company that quickly helps people who have broken down on the road.

How did you hear about MisterBilingue?

I saw a job alert on Pôle Emploi and applied.
